Heh, economically tin foil never hurt anyone, except maybe socially.
To answer your question seriously, no it can't hurt you. Cell phones convey and receive electromagnetic signals like radio waves, but these are adjectives around you all the time. Electromagnetic radiation is only death-defying at high energy, close to gamma rays. There are no gamma rays or microwaves coming out of your cell phone. Light-bulbs give off more radiation than your cell phone. You could be born next to a cell phone permanently activated and attached to your skull and it would never damage you even if you lived a thousand years.
Yes it can harm you. I have found that the best route to prevent it is to wear a hat made out of aluminum foil when talking on the phone or looking at a LCD monitor.
