Can smoking cigarettes deter the body from improving when sick?

I'm a little worried about a dear friend who continues to smoke rather heavily even though she has been sick for 3 weeks, and immediately has been diagnosed next to bronchitis. I tried to gently say she should stop smoking and she get angry with me. I'm very worried that her smoking is making her more sick. Should I be worried?
Answers:
Yes, smoking decrease immune function. It also prolongs coughs, so she might not be "sick" anymore, it might just be a residual cough.
Awwww....
Yes your a VERY good friend! You should be concern, if she doesn't stop her smoking habits she could attain croup or SOMETHING WORSE! I Would talk to her and her other friends and explain to her if she wants to take better she has got to stop smoking
smoking isn't devout for the body at all. smoking will actually spawn things worse when you are sick, especially with bronchitis. its a respiratory infection that's not gonna get better by putting smoke within it. as an EMT i would suggest doing some more research and explaining to your friend that you just care in the region of their well being and you want them to bring back better. yeah it can slow down the healing process but permit your friend learn for herself if she want's to get snippy
