My GP say I own IBS and give me Colofac, when will it work and when will the twinge stop?
I just have severe stomach aching and a lot of gas. The pain is massacre me. I only got the Colofac today and haven taken 2 out of 3 that I should pocket in a day. I hold no easing of the pain yet. When can I expect this to work and can I thieve painkillers too (without messing up my stomach even further)?

Colofac can take quite a while to work- I've used it since and it tends to have a cumulative effect that builds up over a couple of weeks (at least possible it did for me)
I've found painkillers aren't a great option for stomach ache- in certainty some can make sensitive stomachs feel worse. Particularly avoid anything next to codeine in, and always clutch painkillers with or after a meal, unless otherwose instucted. Peppermint tea is vastly good at soothing IBS, as are aloe vera capsules or gooey.
For me, there are things that definitely take home my IBS worse-
white flour (white bread, pasta etc)
spicy food
fatty/oily/creamy food
red meat, and stuff fried in animal fats
fresh veg (particularly pepper and onion)
Make sure you eat slowly, and chew your food really thoroughly. It's amazing the difference it makes- try consciously chewing for twice as long as you normally would. And obtain lots of fibre- ie. branflakes in the morning, but always own plently of water throughout the day to 'keep things moving'!! Hope this helps- I know how you quality believe me!!
I take buscopan for my IBS, and it works quite powerfully for the pain, gas and bloating etc. Also Ibuprofen and Paracetamol are fine to take next to buscopan.
I find fatty foods make it much worse, as well as milk. I one and only have a tiny bit of skimmed milk if i have to enjoy some, you get used to it though. and when I have things approaching cheese it's better if I have it cold rather than melt, because it's less greasy. I cut all the podginess off any meat I eat and give somebody a lift pro biotic tablets (Pre Bio, lb20ish from Holland and Barrett for about 100 tablets) at night to stop me getting back up and bloated.
