How do I push the palatal spreading appliance posterior onto my daughter's tooth? Our Dr. is out of town.?

The Appliance slipped off of her tooth in the middle of the darkness and our orthodontist is out of town until the 30th! We called and talked to another orthodontist and she told us to push it hindmost up. We tried but can't make it move. Any suggestions?
